PESHAWAR: At least 12 terrorists linked to an India-backed proxy were killed, while 11 security personnel embraced martyrdom during a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Bajaur district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
The militaryโs media wing said terrorists launched the attack late Monday night and targeted a joint checkpost operated by Pakistanโs security forces and law enforcement agencies (LEAs). The attackers attempted to breach the post and create chaos in the area.
Attack Targeted Joint Checkpost in Bajaur
According to the ISPR, the assailants tried to break through the checkpostโs security perimeter. However, troops and LEA personnel responded immediately and stopped the attackers through a swift and coordinated counter-operation.
โThe assailants sought to breach the checkpost security; however, their nefarious designs were swiftly and decisively foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of Pakistanโs security forces,โ the statement said.
As the clash continued, security forces killed at least 12 terrorists and prevented them from capturing the post. Meanwhile, the ISPR confirmed that 11 personnel were martyred during the intense exchange.
Explosive Vehicle Causes Civilian Casualties
Despite failing to overrun the checkpost, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, causing heavy damage. The blast severely affected a nearby civilian residential building located close to the checkpost.
As a result, one young girl lost her life, while seven others sustained injuries. The injured include women and children, the ISPR said. Following the incident, authorities began clearing the area and providing medical assistance to the wounded.
Meanwhile, security forces launched further operations in the region to trace facilitators and prevent any follow-up attacks.
